Consolidating civil society, safeguarding Aceh’s path to peace.

ACSTF is a civil society task force born from the Aceh peace dialogue in Washington DC, 2001 — advancing conflict resolution through dialogue and nonviolence, and strengthening the bargaining position of Acehnese civil society.

About Us

Born from peace dialogue, for Acehnese civil society.

Aceh’s protracted conflict left deep wounds on civil society — lives lost, torture, displacement, loss of livelihoods, and eroded access to justice. Various people’s forums were attempted, but none had fully united the voice of civil society.

From this reality, 54 people from diverse components of Acehnese civil society attended the "Brotherly Dialog among Acehnese for a Just Peace in Aceh" in Washington DC on October 5–8, 2001, organized by the International Forum for Aceh (IFA) and the Global Peace Centre of American University. From this meeting, ACSTF (Acehnese Civil Society Task Force) was formed, supported by representatives of the Government of Indonesia and the Free Aceh Movement (GAM) who were also present at the dialogue.

Since then, ACSTF has continued to advance sustainable peace solutions to the Aceh conflict through dialogue and nonviolence — engaging Acehnese, Indonesian, and international civil society.
